Operations Support Associate | Neiman Marcus (Saks Global)

Job Summary

The Operations Support Associate (internally referred to as a Merchandise Operations Associate) is a foundational role within the Neiman Marcus luxury retail environment in San Antonio, TX. Reporting to the RPSO Manager, you are responsible for the behind-the-scenes “magic” that enables world-class customer experiences. This role balances high-stakes inventory management—including receiving, stocking, and digital order fulfillment—with the physical execution of luxury visual standards. You will ensure that the store’s profitability and operational flow remain seamless, supporting everything from inbound freight processing to high-profile in-store brand activations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Logistics & Freight Management: Execute the processing of all inbound and outbound freight, including merchandise handling, transfers, and systematic documentation.

  • Omni-channel Fulfillment: Manage the end-to-end process of picking, packing, and shipping online and store-to-customer orders with high accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Inventory Control: Lead critical inventory processes such as price changes, reticketing, damage processing, and “mark out of stock” procedures to maintain database integrity.

  • Stockroom Optimization: Maintain a highly organized back-stock area, ensuring that merchandise is easily accessible and storage standards are consistently met.

  • Visual & Event Support: Collaborate with the Visual team to set up sale events, install signage, and assist in the physical build-out and strike of luxury in-store activations and “retail-tainment” initiatives.

  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols on the loading dock and throughout the stockroom to ensure a secure work environment for all associates.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 1+ years of retail experience, preferably in a high-volume or luxury environment.

  • Technical Aptitude: Basic proficiency with the Microsoft Office Product Suite and an ability to learn proprietary inventory management systems.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs, bend, and lift or carry up to 35 pounds consistently.

  • Adaptability: A “win together” mentality with the flexibility to pivot between competing tasks in a fast-paced setting.

  • Availability: Commitment to a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the fluctuating needs of the luxury retail calendar.

About the Company: Neiman Marcus (Saks Global)

Neiman Marcus is a legendary name in luxury, recently joining the Saks Global portfolio to create a powerhouse of world-class retail and real estate assets. For over a century, Neiman Marcus has been synonymous with “The Pursuit of the Extraordinary,” famous for its curated designer assortments and the iconic “Fantasy Gifts.” Operating 36 stores alongside a robust digital presence, the company focuses on “Retail-tainment”—blending traditional shopping with exclusive events and digital innovation—to foster deep loyalty among the world’s most discerning customers.

Market & Industry Context

The luxury market in San Antonio is driven by a sophisticated local clientele and international tourism. As the retail industry shifts toward a “seamless” model, the role of the Operations Associate has become more technical and high-paced. No longer just “back-of-house,” these associates are the backbone of Omni-channel retail, ensuring that a customer shopping on their phone has the same “extraordinary” experience as one walking into the San Antonio store. In the luxury sector, operational precision is directly tied to the brand’s prestige; an incorrectly ticketed item or a delayed shipment is a missed opportunity for “Neiman Marcus magic.”

Career Growth & Progression Path

Neiman Marcus is part of the largest multi-brand luxury retailer, offering a vast internal network for advancement.

  • Short-term: Specializing in Inventory Control or becoming a Lead Operations Associate, supervising daily freight flows.

  • Mid-term: Moving into Visual Merchandising, Logistics Management, or Department Management within the San Antonio location.

  • Long-term: Opportunities to transition into Corporate Operations, Supply Chain Strategy, or Digital Merchandising roles within the broader Saks Global portfolio.

Interview Preparation Insights

  • The “Luxury” Standard: Be prepared to discuss why organization and “behind-the-scenes” excellence matter in a luxury setting. How does a tidy stockroom affect the customer on the sales floor?

  • Problem Solving: Think of a time you faced a bottleneck in a warehouse or retail setting. How did you prioritize tasks to ensure the customer wasn’t impacted?

  • Safety & Detail: Expect questions about your experience with inventory accuracy. Managers will look for candidates who are meticulous with reticketing and shipping labels to avoid costly errors.

Estimated Salary Insight

  • Hourly Range: $17.05 – $21.32 per year.

  • Benefits: Eligible full-time employees receive a comprehensive package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, and a generous employee discount across Saks Global brands.

Work Environment & Location Insights

This role is based in-person at the Neiman Marcus San Antonio location. The environment is dynamic and physically active, transitioning between the high-energy loading dock and the meticulously curated sales floor. You will work as part of a collaborative team that values speed and aesthetic standards equally. San Antonio’s luxury retail sector offers a stable and prestigious professional home for those who take pride in operational excellence.
