Casabuela Café: Where The Village Meets. Founded in 2025, Casabuela is more than just a coffee shop; it is a living, breathing love letter to legacy, culture, and curiosity. Inspired by Puerto Rican heritage and the magic of matriarchal hospitality, we have intentionally built a space to serve “the village.”
We are seeking a Head Barista to join us at the groundbreaking of our family-owned cultural café. This is a rare, foundational opportunity to help shape our beverage program, daily operations, and community culture from day one.
The Role: Craft Leader & Culture Carrier
As Head Barista, you are the heartbeat of the bar. You will set the technical standards for our coffee program while acting as a steward of our community-forward mission. This role is perfect for a hospitality professional who thrives in intimate, creative spaces and wants to grow alongside a purpose-driven small business.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Technical Excellence: Prepare and serve high-quality espresso, tea, and specialty beverages with meticulous consistency and care.
-
Bar Leadership: Lead daily bar operations, ensuring a smooth, warm guest experience and a calm, organized workflow.
-
Innovation & Documentation: Assist in developing drink recipes and seasonal specials; create training manuals and toolkits to standardize café excellence.
-
Mentorship: Train and support incoming baristas as our “village” grows.
-
Operational Oversight: Manage opening/closing procedures and maintain the pristine condition of all equipment and service areas.
-
Intentional Hospitality: Engage with a diverse community—including creatives and families—in a grounded, inclusive, and friendly manner.
What You Bring to the Village
We are looking for a leader who balances professional expertise with a patient, welcoming demeanor.
Qualifications:
-
Experience: 2+ years of barista experience (Leadership or Lead Barista experience preferred).
-
Skills: Strong espresso technicality and the ability to document and teach brewing techniques to others.
-
Language: Bilingual (Spanish) is highly preferred to honor our heritage and community.
-
Certification: NYC Food Handlers License is preferred.
-
Vibe: A calm, patient presence—especially in family-centered environments—and a passion for cultural storytelling.
-
Versatility: Bartending experience is a significant plus for special events and evening programming.
Why Join the Casabuela Launch Team?
-
Shape the Legacy: Help build systems, recipes, and guest experiences from the ground up.
-
Creative Environment: Work in a beautiful, thoughtful space rooted in Puerto Rican culture and intentional design.
-
Growth: Opportunities for evening shifts and special event bartending as we expand our programming.
-
Perks: Earned tips, shift meals, and the chance to be part of a foundational New York cultural hub.
Physical Requirements:
-
Ability to stand and remain mobile for the duration of an 8-hour shift.
-
Ability to multitask effectively while maintaining quality and warmth under pressure.
