Job Duties

  • Structural Installation & Repair: Perform rough and finish carpentry to install, repair, and replace partitions, roofs, window frames, sashes, and door frames across NYC Parks facilities.

  • Grounds Maintenance: Install and maintain outdoor structures, including boardwalks, fences, screens, and specialized park equipment.

  • Component Fabrication: Construct and repair wooden office furniture, toolboxes, and fixed or movable sashes for various city buildings.

  • Equipment & Vehicle Repair: Build and rebuild truck cabs and construct various types of specialized ice ladders.

  • Technical Interpretation: Work accurately from complex architectural plans and sketches to ensure structural integrity and code compliance.

  • Machine Operation: Utilize and maintain a wide range of hand and powered woodworking equipment.

  • Playground Safety: Repair and maintain playground and school equipment to ensure the safety of NYC residents.

  • Administrative Tracking: Maintain accurate daily records of work performed, materials used, and project progress.

  • Supervision: Lead and provide technical guidance to assigned personnel or junior staff as required.


Requirements

  • Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in both rough and finish carpentry techniques.

  • Tool Proficiency: Mastery of powered woodworking machinery and precision hand tools.

  • Physical Capability: Ability to perform labor-intensive installation work in various outdoor and indoor environments.

  • Blueprint Literacy: Strong ability to interpret and execute designs from blueprints and technical sketches.

  • Documentation: Capability to maintain organized records and use handheld devices for reporting.

  • Residency: Must be a resident of NYC or surrounding approved counties (Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam, or Westchester).


Qualifications

  • Experience: * 5 years of full-time experience as a Carpenter within the last 10 years; OR

    • 3 years of experience plus relevant trade/vocational school training (6 months credit per year of school) totaling 5 years.

  • Preferred License: Valid New York State driver’s license.

  • Preferred Skills: Strong communication skills and basic computer/handheld device proficiency.
