Job Duties

  • Perform comprehensive installation and repair work involving rough, finish, and general carpentry under supervision.

  • Install and replace structural components including flooring, partitions, roofs, window sashes, and door frames.

  • Maintain and repair outdoor public infrastructure such as boardwalks, fences, and protective screens.

  • Construct and fix wooden office furniture, toolboxes, and specialized equipment for playgrounds, parks, and schools.

  • Build and rebuild truck cabs and other vehicle-related wooden components.

  • Operate a wide range of hand and powered woodworking machinery to complete fabrication tasks.

  • Construct and maintain various types of ice ladders for seasonal park requirements.

  • Interpret and work directly from blueprints, technical plans, and sketches to ensure project accuracy.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of materials used and work hours completed.

  • Supervise assigned personnel on specific job sites to ensure safety and quality standards are met.


Requirements

  • Demonstrate proficiency in both rough and finish carpentry techniques within a municipal or commercial setting.

  • Utilize hand and power woodworking equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Read and implement technical designs from plans and sketches for complex structural repairs.

  • Maintain physical stamina required for outdoor repair work on Staten Island green spaces and facilities.

  • Exercise strong communication skills to coordinate with supervisors and team members.

  • Use handheld devices and computer software to manage work orders and reporting.

  • Hold a valid New York State driver license to travel between various park locations.

  • Adhere to strict NYC Parks safety protocols while working in public recreational areas.


Qualifications

  • Possess five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Carpenter acquired within the last 10 years.

  • Substitute relevant trade or vocational high school training for up to two years of required experience.

  • Meet New York City residency requirements within 90 days of the hire date.

  • Satisfy the background check requirements and pay the associated processing fees upon hire.
