Community Outreach and Events AmeriCorps VISTA

Portland Public Schools is seeking a mission-driven individual to help foster a joyful, inclusive, and empowering educational environment. This VISTA member will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between educators, families, and the community. By working directly with the Executive Director of Community Partnerships, you will help design and execute a district-wide communications and engagement strategy that ensures every learner has the support they need to succeed in an evolving world.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Organize and coordinate events and activities for fundraising, parent engagement, and community outreach, including Parent University lecture series, and annual spring fundraiser

  • Assist on event related marketing and communication activities

  • Solicit donors and sponsors for department events and activities

  • Seek community-based organizations that can become partners in delivering our program of activities

  • Plan Parent University event series for family engagement

  • Assist in planning other Multilingual events such as the Back to School Fair, Make it Happen Senior Celebration, and others

  • Seek community-based organizations that can become partners in delivering program

  • Contribute to problem solving and strategy by thinking through complex circumstances and assisting stakeholders in finding inclusive solutions


About the Role

This is a full-time, in-person service opportunity for someone who excels at logistics, relationship-building, and creative problem-solving. As a VISTA member, you will lead the charge on high-impact initiatives like the “Parent University” series and diverse multilingual celebrations, while also securing the sponsorships and partnerships necessary to sustain these programs.
