Job Summary: Garden Shop Associate (Part-Time)

Intro Do you have a “green thumb” or a strong desire to develop one? Our Garden Shop is looking for a reliable, hardworking Part-Time Associate to join our outdoor team. If you enjoy working with nature, staying active, and helping customers transform their homes and gardens, this is the perfect opportunity to grow your retail skills in a fresh-air environment.

About the Role As a Garden Shop Associate, you are the backbone of our outdoor sales floor. This is a physically engaging role where you will spend your day assisting customers with plant selection, maintaining our inventory, and ensuring the shop looks its best. You’ll be responsible for more than just sales; you’ll help care for our plants and assist customers with the heavy lifting that comes with gardening—like loading soil, mulch, and large perennials. Whether it’s a sunny spring morning or a chilly afternoon, you’ll be out there providing excellent service with a team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Reliability: Must have reliable transportation to ensure consistent attendance.

  • Physical Stamina: Able to stand/walk for 6–8 hours and work outside in extreme weather conditions.

  • Strength: Must be able to lift and carry at least 40 lbs (bags of mulch, soil, large pots).

  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

  • Tech Skills: Basic computer skills for processing transactions or looking up inventory.

  • Service: A strong ability to deliver excellent customer service with a friendly attitude.

Desired Attributes:

  • Prior knowledge of plants is desirable, but a strong desire to learn about horticulture in a retail setting is essential.

Pay & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $14.50 – $16.00 per hour (based on experience).

  • Schedule: Part-time hours with a focus on garden shop operations.

  • Learning Environment: Gain hands-on experience with plant care, seasonal gardening trends, and retail management.

Industry Insight: Seasonal Demand Working in a Garden Shop means experiencing the “spring rush.” In the horticulture retail industry, approximately 60–70% of annual sales often occur during the spring months. Being prepared for a fast-paced environment during these peak times is key to success in this role!
